What your café, restaurant or takeaway can do to be Sugar Smart

We're asking caterers, cafes, restaurants and takeaways to work with us.

Is your food business sugar smart?

Join caterers working in NHS Trusts, universities, workplaces, leisure centres and major venues who are already looking at improving their standards for healthy and sustainable food.

  • the University of the West of England is looking at ways to go Sugar Smart
  • our primary school caterer, Eden Foodservice, has reduced sugar in their desserts by 40% by changing recipes and removing drizzles and icings
  • Bristol City Ashton Gate Stadium is starting to introduce lower sugar products

Sign up to our Bristol Eating Better Award scheme

You can get involved by signing up to the new Bristol Eating Better award scheme. This is a free award which can help you meet the increasing demand for healthier and more environmentally friendly food.

The award includes a section on reducing sugar consumption. If you can commit to at least two thirds of actions from this section, you'll be eligible for a Sugar Smart award.

If you're only interesting in applying for the Sugar Smart Award (and not the full Bristol Eating Better Award) or have any questions, please email us at bristoleatingbetter@bristol.gov.uk
