Grass cutting
Bristol is seeking for a third of land in the city to be managed for the benefit of wildlife by 2030. A small part of achieving this is to reduce the amount of grass we regularly mow. While many citizens support this aim, others prefer well-kept green spaces.
To take into account these different views, we’re trialling changes to our mowing practices while we develop a full city-wide management approach. You’ll notice some areas of grass are mowed less in parks and on streets.
We’ve also reduced our use of herbicides this year. You’ll notice long grass around things such as bins, benches and railings. We’ll cut these areas only once or twice a year.
