Alert - contaminated manure
Beware contaminated manure! A chemical herbicide called Aminopyralid which is found in a herbicide called Forefront and which is used by local farmers has been finding its way onto Bristol's allotments. It is important to ask the farmer or stables where you source manure that the pasture the horses were grazed on (or their hay was cut from) has not been treated with this herbicide. Find out more from the FCFCG website.

- Full details of this year’s allotments competition can be downloaded from the related documents section at the foot of this page.
- The new Allotment Gang now carrying out maintenance and clearing overgrown plots.
- The original estimate for the money needed to upgrade all of Bristol's allotment sites was £1.5 million. Because of the specification of the fencing etc, being upgraded and changes in priority since the original estimate was produced in 1999, the present estimated amount needed has increased to over £3 million. So far we have already spent about £1.5 million on upgrading all allotment sites. Allotment Strategy, find out how Bristol's allotments are being developed.

Get growing - Your allotment can provide you with a bountiful supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, a healthy outdoor pursuit that will keep you fit and well, and a green space where you can relax away from the pressures of everyday life to enjoy fresh air and exercise.
The healthy option in every way - food is central to our lives and Bristol Parks encourages the cultivation of fresh fruit and vegetables on its allotments – fresh, home-grown produce invariably tastes much better than the produce available in the shops, is satisfying to cultivate, and often even cheaper than supermarkets!
Grow fruit and vegetables in the St Paul's Community Garden
Come and learn how to grow fruit and vegetables in the St Paul's Community Garden - every Wednesday morning from 9.30am . As the price of fruit and vegetables is rising rapidly, the St Paul's Community Garden is the perfect place to come and learn about how to grow food in your own garden. We have local friendly gardeners who can teach you about plants suitable for gardens of all sizes, even a window box! There will be Somali and Arabic interpreters on site. To find out more, contact 0117 922 2716.
Cultivate your own tiny allotment - for free! Knowle West Health Park has a demonstration allotment plot which has been divided into strips for allocation on a first-come-first-served basis. You would have to be a resident in the locality or its neighbouring areas to be considered, but if successful you could soon be growing your own organic vegetables and flowers. You would not be charged for your strip of land, but would have to keep it together and under cultivation. Interested? Then view the Knowle West Health Park website for more information about the project.
Exhibition of allotment photography - come and see an exhibition of photography and information from Bristol's thriving world of allotments and find out more about healthy gardening, healthy food production and a host of other community sustainability topics. Its on at the Southville Centre until the end of April. Don't miss it.
