Where we're doing the work
We're delivering a scheme at:
- Park Row
- Perry Road
- Upper Maudlin Street
- Colston Street
What we're doing
Improvements include:
- upgrading cycle lanes and other cycle infrastructure
- upgrading crossings and other pedestrian infrastructure
- upgrading traffic signals
- creating loading and disabled bays
The work will:
- make it easier and safer to walk and cycle
- manage traffic flow and reduce pollution
- encourage more sustainable travel in the area
We made the following changes to the scheme, based on feedback during the community engagement:
- installing no entry signage at Lower Church Lane
- new loading bays on Perry Road and Upper Maudlin Street
- removing 2 bus stops on Park Row and Perry Road, as services have been discontinued
- simplifying cycle infrastructure at Woodland Road
- installing more resilient cycle lane bollards
Programme of work
Construction will start in late March 2024 and is due to be completed by early 2025. It will include:
- Park Row and Park Street junction: estimated start late March 2024, estimated finish late June 2024
- Upper Maudlin Street and Lower Maudlin Street junction: estimated start early April 2024, estimated finish late May 2024
- Park Row and Woodland Road junction: estimated start early April 2024, estimated finish mid-July 2024
- Upper Maudlin Street from BRI Entrance to Lower Maudlin Street: estimated start late April 2024, estimated finish early January 2025
- Perry Road and St Michael's Hill junction: estimated start late June 2024, estimated finish early January 2025
- Lower Park Row and Colston Street junction: estimated start early July 2024, estimated finish mid-September 2024
- Lower Park Row and Park Row junction: estimated start late September 2024, estimated finish mid-December 2024
- Marlborough Street: estimated start early December 2024, estimated finish early January 2025
These dates are indicative and could change. This might be as a result of bad weather or unforeseen ground conditions. We will update this page as the works progress.
Some works, particularly those being carried out by third parties, could be carried out in isolation. The road resurfacing programme is yet to be confirmed.
Impact of works
Two-way traffic will be maintained as much as possible throughout the works, but one-way single lane traffic will be required during some off-peak periods.
Diversions will be put in place when road closures are required. This will be for works on the junctions of Woodland Road, St Michaels Hill, Lower Maudlin Street, Colston Street and Lower Park Row and while roads are resurfaced.
Access to businesses will be maintained at all times during working hours.
