Change a civil partnership to a marriage

Couples in a civil partnership can change their partnership to a marriage at the register office.

The ‘conversion’ is a legal paper process with the option to have a celebratory ceremony.

You’ll need to book an appointment and then visit the register office.

Please be aware that for conversion appointments taking place after the 9 December 2015 a statutory fee of £45  will be payable.

See the comparison of civil partnership and marriage for same sex couples on the GOV.UK website.
