Citizenship ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies

Adults who are given UK citizenship must go to a citizenship ceremony.

Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on citizenship ceremonies

All citizenship ceremonies have been postponed until further notice.

You'll now have 6 months to book your citizenship ceremony from when you receive an invitation from the Home Office.

You’ll be given UK citizenship after swearing either the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance, and taking the Citizenship Pledge.

Invitation to a ceremony

You will receive a letter from the Home Office asking you to call to arrange a ceremony. Call us on 0117 922 2800 and pick option 2. The call centre is open:

  • Monday: 9am to 4pm
  • Tuesday: 9am to 4pm
  • Wednesday: 10am to 4pm
  • Thursday: 9am to 4pm
  • Friday: 9am to 4pm

The date and time will be arranged over the phone, and you can bring up to 2 guests.

Ceremonies are held on Thursdays every 2 weeks. You must have your ceremony within 3 months of receiving your letter. Ceremonies are at The Bristol Register Office, The Old Council House, Corn Street, BS1 1JG. You can find an access guide on the DisabledGo website.

Private ceremonies can be arranged at short notice for a fee of £140 (Monday to Friday only, depending on availability).
