About the school's work

Essential Award: 15 February 2023 to 15 February 2026

Congratulations to Whitehall Primary School on achieving the Essential Award!

Whitehall Primary School submitted a strong application to the Bristol Healthy Schools programme, demonstrating good practice across all criteria.

Whitehall use several approaches to identify and understand the needs of the pupils in their school. They do this effectively by assessing school data in relation to behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, children in care, SEND and PP, and through having pupil conferencing and a school council, using worry monsters and worry boxes, carrying out the pupil voice survey, and using CPOMS.

This information is communicated appropriately to teachers to meet the needs of pupils in their school, and used to flag and address any issues that may arise around poor health and wellbeing.

The school’s ethos focuses on adults in the school showing care and understanding for all their pupils, building relationships with all children as individuals. This ethos permeates throughout their curriculum.

The school shared examples of how they respond to pupil feedback, for instance the school recognised that a tool which was used to support mental wellbeing during Covid-19 and the lockdowns were no longer proving to be effective.

This resulted in the school adapting their approach and are now taking one that the pupils prefer.

Pupil’s feedback also influences regular improvements to school meals.

Additionally, they have just been awarded a GOLD Bristol Eating Better award!

Well done Whitehall Primary School, keep up the good work!
