About the school's work

Congratulations to Claremont School on achieving the Essential Award!

The school demonstrated their commitment to meeting pupils' needs while maximising opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of the school community.

To understand and support the health and wellbeing needs of their pupils the school prioritises frequent communication with parents and carers, gathers information from various therapists (physios, OTs, speech and language), and collaborates with other health professionals.

Investing in high-tech communication aids ensures that the voices of non-verbal students are heard and considered in decision-making. For example, they use the results of pupil surveys to guide plans for sports and activity days.

The school has made exceptional progress in improving their food and drinks environment whenever possible, for example through encouraging and providing healthier options for special occasions, meetings and events; not using food as a reward; and working with Bristol Eating Better awarded caterers.

All students have access to daily physical activity. They excel in staying active throughout the week with a variety of activities including garden play, dance sessions, hydrotherapy, physio routines, Wake Up Shake Up activities, lunchtime stretching, their new lunchtime Boccia Club, and more!

The school places a strong emphasis on staying current with mental health support for both pupils and staff. Their Health and Wellbeing Lead has completed the Senior Mental Health Leads course and recently started a mental wellbeing working group, to enhance their whole-school approach to mental wellbeing.

All staff members are informed about the Employee Assistance scheme, ensuring they have access to counselling and helpful advice lines.

Well done Claremont School, keep up the excellent work!
