Our service covers two areas.

Private Housing

There are more than 3,000 houses in multiple occupation (HMO) in Bristol that require a licence, as well as discretionary licensing schemes which apply to smaller HMOs and other rented accommodation.

The property licensing team is responsible for carrying out inspections of licensed properties, ensuring that property conditions and standards are being met, and that houses are free from serious hazards.  The team also investigates unlicensed properties, gathering evidence for potential prosecutions, civil penalty notices and rent repayment orders.

Roles within this team include Team Leaders, Environmental Health Housing Officer and Caseworker and their work is a combination of visits to properties and can be office and home based. They maintain and improve conditions within the private rented and owner-occupied sectors of the city. This includes the licensing and enforcement of standards within the private rented sector, tenancy relations work, bringing empty properties back into use and providing services such as loans to help with home repairs.

Accessible Homes and Technology Enabled Care

Accessible Homes and Technology Enabled Care Hub are a team whose main aim is to help people maintain their independence at home. We work with older and disabled people to make their home safer and more accessible. We do this by providing a range of adaptations such as grab rails, ramping, level access showers, right through to major reconfigurations and extensions.  The roles in the team include:

Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Aides who carry out assessments of need, surveyors who plan and design the work needed to the home and caseworkers who oversee the case and help the customer navigate the process. We also have technicians who carry out minor adaptations to people’s homes and assessor installers who assess for and install technology enabled care in our homes.

All the roles are customer facing and many involve working around Bristol in homes of all tenures.
