Barton House evacuation: information for residents.

We have made a list of buildings, structures and sites that don't already have listed status but are worth preserving because of their quality, style or historical importance.

Our local list of valued buildings was adopted in October 2015.

See what's on the Local List

You can see the list as a layer on the Know Your Place mapping system Go to http://maps.bristol.gov.uk/kyp/?edition= (opens new window), or on  pdf the Bristol Local List document (3.97 MB) .

We'll update the map and the document as new buildings and sites are added.

How to nominate a building

You can nominate a building by using the contribute function on Know Your Place or by emailing conservation@bristol.gov.uk

Telephone 0117 922 3044 for more information.

All nominated sites must be in the Bristol City Council area.

How are nominations assessed?

The Architecture Centre has worked with us to set up an independent panel to assess the nominations every few months.

The panel uses a set of criteria based around these themes:

  • architectural interest
  • historic importance
  • artistic interest
  • archaeological interest
  • community value

Other factors such as completeness, rarity and the degree to which they may be thought to be typical of Bristol, such as the use of local building materials, will also be considered.

You can read more about the assessment and selection process in  pdf the Architecture Centre's Local List report (92 KB)

How the Local List relates to the National Heritage List

While the National Heritage List for England, administered by Historic England, is concerned with buildings and sites of clearly national significance, a Local List provides the opportunity to identify those features of the local scene that are particularly valued by communities as distinctive elements of the local historic environment.
