Services

Mentoring Programme

For young people that are struggling to engage at school due to behaviour, social or emotional issues. The programme aims to provide the young person a safe space to develop coping mechanisms and build supportive relationships to encourage engagement back into school.

Academic Programme

An alternative curriculum that runs alongside school term time, allowing young people to still achieve, but within an informal setting, for young people who struggle to engage in a school environment. To include academic work set by school alongside ASDAN Short Course work.

Education Outreach

Provision of a weekly home visit of up to an hour to meet with hard-to-reach students who are out of education, or more frequent visits to include transport to school as well as support and confidence building with a Mentor, with the aim of re-engaging the student into school. For young people who have significant anxiety/barriers around attending school, and where previous attempts to get them into school by parents/carers have not been successful.

Group social and emotional workshops

Weekly group sessions to support young people who are struggling to engage with education in a school setting and are in need of more specialist social and emotional support. Our group sessions are suitable for up to 6 young people and are run by a minimum of two Youth Centre Mentors. The group will engage in cooking or arts and crafts activities (dependent on the needs and interests of the young people) and will promote communication, teamwork, social skills and positive behaviours, over a 6-week programme. Young people engaging in this provision must have similar needs and educational targets.

Digital music studio workshops

Digital music workshops with our qualified and experienced Recording Studio Manager on site at Portishead Youth & Community Centre, in our fully equipped professional Recording Studio. This 6-week course is delivered weekly, with each session lasting 2 hours. For young people who have an interest in music production and recording and who would like to expand their skills and work towards an ASDAN qualification.
