Consultation on proposed school terms and holiday dates for 2025/2026

Bristol City Council is responsible for setting the school term and holiday dates for all Community and Voluntary Controlled schools in the city. Academies have the freedom to determine their own but often choose to align with the LA.

Following discussions with local authorities neighbouring Bristol, we consulted on two options for term dates.

South Gloucestershire Council have proposed Option 1, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset Option 2.

Option 1 

Term 1: 1st September 2025 to 24th October 2024 (40 days)

Term 2: 3rd November 2025 to 19th December 2025 (35 days)

Term 3: 5th January 2026 to 13th February 2026 (30 days)

Term 4: 23rd February 2026 to 2nd April 2026 (29 days)

Term 5: 20th April 2026 to 22nd May 2026 (24 days)

Term 6: 1st June 2026 to 21st July 2026 (37 days)

Option 2 

Term 1: 2nd September 2025 to 24th October 2025 (39 days)

Term 2: 3rd November 2025 to 19th December 2025 (35 days)

Term 3: 5th January 2026 to 13th February 2026 (30 days)

Term 4: 23rd February 2026 to 2nd April 2026 (29 days)

Term 5: 20th April 2026 to 22nd May 2026 (24 days)

Term 6: 1st June 2026 to 22nd July 2026 (38 days)

Total: 195 school days*

*In the school year 2024/2025 pupils must attend for 190 days. Schools may decide which 5 days in the school year are INSET or non-contact days (days when pupils do not attend).
