Bristol Drug and Alcohol Strategy 2026 to 2030 consultation
Overview
In this consultation, we ask for your views on the vision, principles, priorities and ambitions for the draft Bristol Drug and Alcohol Strategy. The strategy will outline how Bristol through the work of the Combatting Drugs Partnership will work to reduce drug and alcohol harms and build recovery.
The strategy has been co-designed with Raft (Bristol's Lived-Experience Recovery Organisation - LERO) and people facing multiple disadvantage. Their insight has shaped the vision, principles, priorities and ambitions of this strategy. We believe that by placing lived experience at the heart of our approach and tackling inequality, we are better able to improve outcomes for those most at risk, reduce the wider impact on families and neighbourhoods, bring hope and achieve our ambition of becoming a recovery city.
What are we proposing
Our vision
Our vision is:
Bristol aspires to be a recovery city working together with individuals, families and communities to reduce drug and alcohol harms, promote education and understanding, and provide compassionate, inclusive services.
Our principles
The draft Bristol Drug and Alcohol Strategy 2026 to 2030 is underpinned by a set of core principles that shape every aspect of our approach. The principles are:
- Trauma-informed practice
- Challenging stigma
- Lived-experience at the centre
- Accessibility and flexibility
- Evidence-informed decision making
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Collaborative recovery city approach
Our priorities
The draft strategy has 6 priorities:
- Prevent and reduce harms. This means that Bristol will continue to recognise that the challenges posed by drugs and alcohol are changing and we will adapt our approaches to respond
- Address inequalities. This means that Bristol will focus on removing barriers into treatment and create health equity
- Children and Young People. This means that Bristol will focus on ensuring children and young people are protected from drug and alcohol harms and able to thrive
- Treatment and support. This means that Bristol will deliver high quality and effective services
- Criminal justice. This means that Bristol will recognise and address the health and social inequalities, that can lead to crime and disorder
- Recovery. This means that Bristol will promote, build and invest in sustainable recovery across Bristol
Our ambitions
Under each priority, we have identified a range of ambitions which support the delivery of this strategy’s vision. This consultation will provide more information on the ambitions for each priority. We ask you for your views on these.
