Philip Street Options - Whitehouse Street Regeneration area

Background

The area around Whitehouse Street has been chosen for growth and improvement. This means it will change a lot over the coming years.

From 2021 to 2023, we worked with local people to create the Whitehouse Street Regeneration Framework. The council is now working to make this happen.

One important part of this work is improving transport in the area. More people living here will mean more walking, cycling and moving around. We want to reduce through‑traffic, make the streets safer, and improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

Philip Street

The main ideas for Philip Street remain the same. These include having one-way traffic from Whitehouse Lane towards Bedminster Parade and the possibility of making the pavement wider.

We now want feedback from residents, businesses and local groups on two parts of the design:

Traffic movement on Philip Street

We want to know whether Philip Street should:

• become one-way all the way from Whitehouse Lane to Bedminster Parade (as suggested in the Regeneration Framework)
• stay two-way between Stillhouse Lane and Bedminster Parade (this is the temporary layout in place since summer 2024)

Parking on Philip Street

We want your views on parking. The options are:

• remove all parking to make the pavement wider
• keep the parking as it is now
• remove some parking to make the pavement wider in certain places

It should be noted that in the future, some other parking spaces in the wider regeneration area will be removed to make room for other sustainable travel improvements such as widened footways and segregated cycle lanes.
