The Chessels & Parson Street Residents' Parking Scheme

Consultation on a proposed Residents’ Parking Scheme for The Chessels and Parson Street

Introduction

We are consulting on a Residents’ Parking Scheme (RPS) for The Chessels and Parson Street. An RPS is an area where parking is controlled. It is designed to make it easier to park for residents, their visitors, disabled drivers and essential vehicles used by businesses. We also propose electric vehicle charging spaces, cycle stands, and e-scooter and cycle hire parking.

We are proposing an RPS for The Chessels and Parson Street because a majority of people in these areas told us they wanted one when we consulted on South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhoods last year. We want to understand your views on the RPS proposals before any final decisions are made.

What we are proposing

The proposed RPS would introduce parking controls in The Chessels and Parson Street to help manage parking demand and improve parking availability for local residents and businesses.

The Chessels and Parson Street RPS would include most streets in the area surrounded by North Street, Cannon Street, Sheene Road, St John's Lane, parts of Bedminster Road, the railway line through Parson Street Station, South Liberty Lane, Winterstoke Road, Gore's Marsh Road, and Luckwell Road.

We propose that the scheme would operate Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 9 pm. It would not operate on Sundays or bank holidays.

During operating hours, motorists would need either:

  • a valid permit or Blue Badge to park in permit holder bays, or
  • to pay and display in designated parking places

Go to further information about the residents’ permits and visitor permits proposed for The Chessels and Parson Street.

Outside operating hours, permit and pay and display parking places would be available for free parking.

Blue Badge holders would be able to park free of charge and without a time limit in permit spaces, pay and display spaces, and disabled bays.

Double yellow lines, disabled bays and car club bays would continue to operate at all times.

The RPS would not affect vehicles parking in driveways, garages or private areas off the public highway.
