About the school's work

Essential award: May 2026

Congratulations to St Anne’s Infant School on achieving the Essential Award!

Highlights of the school’s work:

  • Developing a clear understanding of pupil health and wellbeing needs using pupil voice surveys, attendance and safeguarding data, school health profiles and regular staff discussions.
  • Having clear processes in place to identify and support pupils at risk of poor physical or mental health, including parent liaison, school nurse drop in sessions and access to breakfast and after school provision.
  • Ensuring pupil voice is heard through the School Council, Eco Team and the Bristol Pupil Voice Survey, with steps taken to include less vocal and more vulnerable pupils.
  • Supporting staff mental health and wellbeing through regular wellbeing updates, visible wellbeing messaging, social events and a focus on workload management.
  • Using a trauma informed approach across school practice, with emotional regulation taught throughout the curriculum and calm spaces available in classrooms.
  • Promoting a positive food and drink environment, working with caterers to improve provision and adopting a water only approach.

The school is most proud of:

“The change of caterer during this school year has really improved the children’s attitudes towards what they would normally deem as ‘healthy food’, alongside becoming a water only school this has helped to foster a positive and healthy environment”

As a result of working with the Healthy Schools programme the school noticed:

“Increased storage for scooters and bikes has seen an increase in children actively travelling to school. Increased focus across the school on how to keep health at the forefront of planning etc”
