The current and proposed Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in Bristol.
Business Improvement Districts are partnerships set up to improve particular commercial areas.
Businesses in the area pay a percentage of their rateable value on top of their business rates to fund projects which benefit local businesses.
You have to pay a small levy on top of your business rates in our Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in:
- Bedminster
- Broadmead
- City Centre
- Clifton Village
- Redcliffe and Temple
A Business Improvement District can charge this levy for up to five years.
Current Business Improvement Districts
Bedminster
The Bedminster BID started on 1 November 2018 and will run for five years.
Most properties pay an extra 2% of their rateable value.
The BID levy is based on a chargeable day basis and is paid in full in advance by the occupier on 1 November of each year.

Broadmead
The Broadmead Business Improvement District started on 1 November 2018 and will run for five years.
Properties within the Galleries pay an extra 0.75% of their rateable value and properties outside the Galleries pay 1.5% of their rateable value. You have to pay whether or not the property is occupied.
The BID levy is based on a chargeable day basis and is paid in full in advance by the occupier on 1 November of each year.

City Centre
The Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District started on 1 November 2022 and will run for five years.
Most properties pay an extra 1.5% of their rateable value. You have to pay whether or not the property is occupied.
The BID levy is based on a chargeable day basis and is paid in full in advance by the occupier on 1 November of each year.

The ballot for the Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District 2022-2027 was held on 29 September 2022.
The ballot was conducted by post by the Independent Scrutineer, Civica Election Services of 33 Clarendon Road, London N8 0NW.
The proposal to establish a Business Improvement District for Bristol City Centre is approved. A majority of the business ratepayers in the proposed BID area who voted, voted in favour of the proposal, both by aggregate rateable value and numbers voting.
The Bristol City Centre BID term for 2022-2027 will begin on 1 November 2022 and will run until 31 October 2027.

Clifton Village
The Clifton Village Business Improvement District started on 1 November 2022 and will run for five years.

The ballot for the Clifton Village Business Improvement District 2022-2027 was held on 15 September 2022.
The ballot was conducted by post by the Independent Scrutineer, Civica Election Services of 33 Clarendon Road, London N8 0NW.
The proposal to establish a Business Improvement District for Clifton Village is approved. A majority of the business ratepayers in the proposed BID area who voted, voted in favour of the proposal, both by aggregate rateable value and numbers voting.

Redcliffe and Temple
Following a successful vote in favour, the Redcliffe and Temple BID will run from 1 June 2021 to 31 October 2025.
Most properties pay an extra 1.5% of their rateable value. You have to pay whether or not the property is occupied.
The BID levy is based on a chargeable day basis and is paid in full in advance by the occupier on 1 June 2021 for the initial five month period of the BID, and then on 1 November of each year thereafter.
