As a Project Manager within our Change Services team, you'll be at the forefront of transformation across the council. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in managing complex projects to contribute their skills to initiatives that directly benefit Bristol's communities.

What you'll be doing

You'll take ownership of projects from start to finish, ensuring they're delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard. Working closely with stakeholders and project teams, you'll:

  • Lead the development and execution of project plans, business cases, and benefit realisation strategies
  • Manage budgets, resources, risks, and issues with confidence and clarity
  • Establish governance structures and reporting mechanisms to keep projects on track
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring transparency and collaboration
  • Provide leadership and support to project staff, fostering a positive and productive team environment

You'll also contribute to the council's wider Portfolio Management Office, helping embed best practices and continuous improvement across our programmes.

What we're looking for

  • Have experience managing projects in a change or construction environment, with a strong grasp of project lifecycle principles and tools
  • Are confident in challenging the status quo and offering innovative, practical solutions
  • Can build strong relationships and lead teams effectively
  • Are skilled in risk management, planning, and prioritisation
  • Communicate with influence and clarity, both verbally and in writing
  • Understand the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion in public service delivery

A professional project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2) and experience in applying structured methodologies are desirable, but not essential.

1. Experience in a Project Manager role within a change environment with detailed knowledge of project and industry principles, methods, techniques and tools associated with the project lifecycle and how to apply them to best effect and measurable benefit.

2. Demonstrable skills in the application of effective tools and techniques to plan, sequence and dependency manage, and using these to effect when things don't go to plan.

3. Excellent organisation, time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to demonstrate consistent completion of assigned tasks within agreed time- scales, costs and quality constraints.

4. Evidence of success in building and managing effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of authority; building and managing effective project teams
