As a Senior Project Manager (Construction), you'll be part of the Capital Portfolio, delivering transformational infrastructure, especially within the Education Capital Programme.
This programme is focused on creating inclusive, high-quality learning environments for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It's well-funded, ambitious, and deeply meaningful.
What you'll do
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale capital construction projects
- Develop detailed project plans, manage dependencies, and monitor progress
- Oversee budgets, forecast expenditures, and manage financial risks
- Engage with schools, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, sustainability goals, and council standards
- Provide confident reporting to senior leaders and elected members
- Promote inclusive design and community engagement throughout delivery
What we're looking for
- Experience managing complex construction projects in a public sector or education setting
- Understanding, designing and delivering the needs of services now and looking to the future
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and team management skills
- Knowledge of procurement, contract management, and health & safety regulations
- Familiarity with PRINCE2, MSP, or Agile methodologies
- A degree or equivalent qualification in construction, surveying, or project management
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIOB, RICS) is desirable
This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work from home, but you'll also be hands-on, visiting sites, engaging with communities, and seeing your projects come to life.

1. Qualified to degree level or equivalent (or has developed in skills and experience to this level) and advanced knowledge and practical, creative application of a range of recognised project methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2/MSP/Agile) and other programme and project management principles, methods, techniques and tools. With the ability to lead, train and coach high performing teams in the application of these approaches.
2. Expert at translating the strategic vision and priorities of senior managers into deliverable programmes and projects that provide confidence in deliverability through demonstrating a clear understanding of how this will give the best likelihood of successful delivery of desired outcomes.
3. Experience of developing very complex business cases effectively, modelling different scenarios to enable informed decision making and undertaking the necessary work to provide confident estimates of cost and realistic benefits mapped to desired outcomes and aligned to agreed objectives.
4. Expert at identifying opportunities and developing practical solutions to complex programme and project issues by using their own considerable experience and by encouraging and valuing the expertise around them.
