Bristol Direct Payment Account (BDPA)
The Bristol Direct Payment Account (BDPA) helps you to manage the direct payments you get for your care and support.
The account makes it easier for you, your carers and us to manage direct payments.
What is a Bristol Direct Payment Account
The BDPA card account works like a current account from your bank. You can use it to pay for services that meet your needs that you agreed in your support plan.
How the account works
A debit card comes with the account.
You can use the card to pay for services:
- in person, using Chip and PIN
- by Standing Order or Direct Debit
- over the internet, by bank transfer, or by telephone
Our Client and Carer Finance Team will pay your Direct Payment into your account. You can check your account balance online, by text message or by telephone. Paper statements are also available.
The account won't have a cheque book facility.

Benefits of using a Bristol Direct Payment Account
You don’t need to open a separate bank account.
It cuts down on paperwork.
You won’t have to send us regular evidence of your spending because it will all be shown in the account. (You do need to keep your receipts).
It is a secure and easy way for you to pay for your care.
You have more choice in how you pay for you care and support, including online banking, paying by Direct Debit or Standing Order, or by using the card.
What to do if you'd like a Bristol Direct Payment Account
After your Care Act assessment your allocated care practitioner will talk to you about the options for meeting your care and support needs.They'll talk to you about the account.
