Introduction by Alex Hearn, Director of Economy of Place, Bristol City Council

Thank you for taking the time to consider applying for this unique and exciting role.

This senior role will be critical in leading the southwest region's largest ever flood resilience project. Formerly the Bristol Avon Flood Strategy, the project has recently rebranded as Avon Riversides 2100 as it enters detailed design, consenting and delivery to better protect Bristol and neighbouring communities from flooding along the River Avon up to the year 2100 and beyond.

As the Transformational Projects Director for Avon Riversides 2100 you will be at the heart of Bristol's growth and regeneration and at the helm of one of the city's most ambitious, high-profile and consequential resilience programmes.

You will be directly responsible for the effective planning, consenting, funding, and delivery of the council's £250m+ programme of flood resilience works, ensuring they provide multiple benefits beyond flood resilience to the city for generations to come.

You'll work across council service areas to ensure alignment with Avon Riversides ambitions, and you'll be a key advocate for Bristol in local, regional and national forums.

You will be directly responsible for managing the interfaces with other growth and regeneration services, programmes and projects, including spatial planning and development management, harbour operations, regeneration projects, city transport, and the Bristol Temple Quarter and Western Harbour masterplans.

The ability to know how to influence and impact change at multiple levels is crucial. You will interact with many council sub teams, our lead consultants and their supply chains, contractors, your own team, and a wide range of external stakeholders. You need to know how to work to get the best outcomes, where to compromise, when to push hard, and when to be creative to break through.

I wish you every success in applying for this role.
