Bullet point lists
Use unordered bullet point lists to make text easier to read.
Lists should be as short as possible, with a limit of about 6 items.
Each item should be as short and simple as possible.
Use:
- a lead-in line and write the points so they follow on from the lead-in line
- a colon at the end of the lead-in line
- lowercase at the start of the bullet, unless it's a name or acronym
Don't:
- use full stops within bullet points, use a colon or comma or start a new bullet point instead
- say 'or' at the start or end of bullet points
- put any punctuation at the end of bullet points, even the last one
If it’s not possible to have a lead-in line before your bullet point list:
- give your list a heading
- start each bullet point with a capital letter
- end each bullet point with a full stop
For example:
What to do with your waste
- Keep clinical waste separate from other bins and recycling.
- Store it in a yellow box or sack.
- Double bag it, if the waste is particularly wet or heavy.
