Numbered lists
Only use a numbered list when you want to guide users through a process or the points are in priority order.
You don't need lead-in text for numbered lists, but you do need:
- a number at the start of each step
- to capitalise the first letter in each step, because each step is a sentence
- to include a full stop at the end of each step
For example:
What to do when someone dies at home
- Inform the nearest relative and family doctor.
- Ask the doctor to give you a death certificate.
- Register the death within 5 days, by taking the certificate to the registrar in the area where the death happened.
