Bristol City Council

A user sees the council as one body, not as individual teams or services.

Refer to the council or a service within the council as 'we'. For example 'we maintain public roads'.

Avoid:

  • team or service names, such as 'Regulatory Services', the only exception is if the team’s name is a popular search term, such as 'Trading Standards'
  • official terms, such as 'client' or 'local authority', as they're harder to understand and can be ambiguous

If you have to mention the council to differentiate it from another organisation, use:

  • 'the council', without capitals
  • 'Bristol City Council', with capital letters at the start of each word
