Suicide prevention strategy

Our pdf Bristol Suicide Prevention Strategy 2026 to 2030(303 KB)  has been developed with the support of the Bristol Suicide Prevention Group. This multiagency partnership is administered by Bristol City Council and brings together representatives from statutory, voluntary and community sector organisations that play a role in suicide prevention.

The strategy outlines 8 priorities that guide our work towards becoming a zero suicide city:

  1. Improving data and evidence
  2. Tailored and targeted support
  3. Addressing risk factors
  4. Online safety, media and technology
  5. Effective and appropriate crisis support
  6. Tackling means and methods of suicide
  7. Timely and effective bereavement support
  8. Making suicide everyone's business

Each year the Bristol Suicide Prevention Group reviews local data and evidence on suicide in Bristol, and we produce an annual report. Read the pdf Preventing Suicide in Bristol Annual Report for 2025(308 KB) .

We'll also publish an annual action plan, detailing the steps we'll take to improve support for people in Bristol and reduce suicide risk. The annual report and action plan will be published on this webpage annually. We're currently working with the Bristol Suicide Prevention Group to develop the 2026 action plan.
