Tell us if you're moving into, within or out of Bristol or register for council tax.
We're currently receiving a high volume of enquiries which may cause delays in processing changes to council tax accounts.
You don't need to send more than one enquiry about the same thing. We'll respond to you as quickly as possible.
It's important to update your council tax information if you're:
- moving into Bristol
- moving from one Bristol address to another
- leaving Bristol
This helps make sure that your council tax records are accurate and up to date. It will also help avoid unnecessary charges and will make sure you're billed correctly.
Moving into Bristol
If you're moving into Bristol, you'll need to register for council tax at your new address.
Moving within or out of Bristol
If you're moving within or out of Bristol you must be named on your current council tax account before filling in the form.
If the form is completed by someone who's not named on the council tax account, it may delay the processing of your moving form.
Before you start
Check if your property is in the Bristol City Council area. Find your local authority.
You'll need:
- your full name and contact information
- your old and new addresses
- move-in and move-out dates
- the names of anyone else moving with you
If you get a council tax reduction (means tested benefit)
You'll also need to tell the council tax reduction team that you've moved.
Landlords
If you're a landlord of a property within the area covered by Bristol City Council you need to tell us if any tenants are moving into or out of your properties.
You will need:
- the tenancy start or end date
- the full name of the tenants who are moving in or moving out
