Our current Lord Mayor of Bristol and Deputy Lord Mayor.
Our Lord Mayor

The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Bristol, 2026 to 2027, is Councillor Yassin Mohamud.
"It is a deep honour to be stepping into the role of Lord Mayor. For me, it represents both a personal journey and a responsibility to the communities that have shaped me.
I was born in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, and grew up in Jilib and Afgooye in the south of the country. From a young age, I was always interested in environmentalism, studying at an agricultural secondary school and later at the Forestry Range and Wildlife Institute in Afgooye. I went on to work as an assistant researcher in the Plant Protection Department at the Central Agriculture Research Station, part of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Over two decades ago, due to ongoing conflict, I left Somalia and came to the UK as a refugee with my wife and family. When you come to a new country for the first time, it can be very challenging learning a new language, finding schools and employment, and building a sense of community. Through volunteering and seeking out opportunities, I have built my life here in Bristol, the city my son and daughter now call home.
Since 2021, I have been proud to represent Lawrence Hill ward, one of the most deprived areas in the country. As a Black, Muslim man who came to the UK as a refugee, and as the first person from the Somali community to serve as Lord Mayor of Bristol.
I want to use this platform to bring Bristol together. I want to celebrate the diversity and strength of our city and ensure that every community feels recognised and valued.
Bristol is a city of resilience, creativity, and compassion, and I want the mayoralty to reflect that. Above all, I remain grounded in the same principles that brought me into public service: to listen, to serve, and to work with the people of Bristol to build a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.'
Our Deputy Lord Mayor

The Deputy Lord Mayor is Councillor Henry Michallat.
