What help you can get to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

Energy loans

We have a number of loans for energy efficiency improvements that you can apply for.

0% Loan for Energy Efficiency

To get this type of energy loan you must:

  • own and live in your property
  • meet the eligibility criteria under the council’s Statement of Intent (pdf, 537KB) (opens new window)
  • have enough equity in your property to cover the agreed loan
  • agree to pay back the outstanding balance if you move home

The maximum loan available is £15,000. There’s a fixed interest rate of 0%.

Energy loans for owner occupiers and private landlords

To get this type of energy loan you must:

  • have enough equity in your property to cover the agreed loan
  • agree to pay back the outstanding balance if you move home

The maximum loan available is £15,000. There’s a fixed interest rate of 4%.

Energy loan to top up new government Green Homes Grant Voucher scheme

This loan can cover any financial shortfall between the amount of grant that you are awarded and the cost of the approved measures you want to install.

The maximum loan available is £15,000. There’s a fixed interest rate of 4%.

These loans are only available from September 2020 to 31 March 2021.

To get this loan you must:

  • be either an owner –occupier or a private landlord 
  • have applied for and received the Green Homes Scheme voucher to undertake energy efficiency improvements to your home
  • agree to pay back the outstanding balance if you move home
  • have enough equity in your home to cover the loan
