Get a grant or loan to improve your home energy efficiency

What you can get help towards and how you can get a grant or loan

You could get some or all of the costs towards:

  • loft or wall insulation
  • installing a more efficient boiler
  • boiler insulation
  • draught proofing your house
  • double glazing
  • a different heating system
  • solar panels

Grants

The grants, called the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), are funded by the major energy suppliers in the UK:

Energy loans 

We also have a number of loans that you can apply for.

Energy loans for fuel poor homeowners

To get this type of energy loan you must:

  • own and live in your property
  • be a fuel poor household
  • have enough equity in your property to cover the agreed loan
  • agree to pay back the outstanding balance if you move home

A fuel poor household is a household that has a low income but high energy costs.  Turn to us explains in more detail.

The maximum loan available is £15,000. There’s a fixed interest rate of 0%.

If the work is going to cost £5,000 or less, you only need one quote for the works.

You can apply by: 

Energy loans for able to pay owners of private housing

To get this type of energy loan you must:

  • not be a fuel poor household
  • have enough equity in your property to cover the agreed loan
  • agree to pay back the outstanding balance if you move home

The maximum loan available is £15,000. There’s a fixed interest rate of 4%.

If the work is going to cost £5,000 or less, you only need one quote.
