How to volunteer on your own in one of our parks or green spaces

There are great benefits to spending time outdoors, taking care of your local green space. If you want to volunteer on your own, this should involve low-risk tasks in line with park management plans.

What you can do

Low-risk tasks, suitable for independent volunteering, include:

  • light pruning
  • weeding
  • litter picking

Before you volunteer in your local park, you must:

  • check if there's a volunteer-led Friends of Park group for your park
  • check what you're planning to do does not go against our park byelaws
  • email parkvolunteers@bristol.gov.uk to inform them of your interest. We'll connect you with your area's park operations lead and local Friends of Park group (if there is one)
