Updated concept plans
The concept plan shows how proposals for Castle Park have been developed after feedback from Stage 1 Castle Park Conversations.
It shows proposed spaces for play, sport, events, new facilities and improvements to paths and existing park spaces.

- play in the park, for all ages
- safety and spaces for women and girls
- sports spaces
- events programmes and activities

While not every aspect of the project is open for discussion, there are still important opportunities for you to influence the design.
Both the 2D and 3D concept plans of Castle Park will be on display.

Next Steps
Following the stage 2 event, we'll move the design forward into stage 3.
Stage 3 will include developing more detailed proposals for Castle Park.
Planning application
We're aim to submit a Planning Application early in 2027.
There will be another opportunity to comment on the designs before this happens.
We'll share our progress with you from late 2026 to show how your comments have shaped the proposals.

Stage 1
Developing the vision
We looked at what was possible and tested ideas with local people and businesses to help shape the next steps towards creating a better Castle Park.
From Spring 2025, we worked with a team of experts to develop the vision for Castle Park into a deliverable project.
Castle Park Conversations
In Autumn 2025, we launched Castle Park Conversations, which included:
- 10 community workshops
- 3 pop-up events in the park and a larger family activity day
- 300 conversations with people across Bristol, including 20 filmed interviews
These all contributed to a film created by Screenology, which will be screened in Stage 3.
Who we spoke to
We spoke with a wide range of people and organisations.
This included community groups based in and around the park, as well as groups representing disabled people, ethnically minoritised communities, LGBTQ+ people, faith communities, women, older people and young people.
We also engaged with members of the public, including families visiting Castle Park, alongside a range of stakeholder organisations.
What we heard
Across these conversations, there was a strong consensus on the future priorities for Castle Park.
The 4 main themes identified were:
- Making the park feel safer, more welcoming and better maintained.
- Activating the park through a wider range of daytime activities, including play opportunities, events, markets and initiatives that celebrate its heritage.
- Enhancing biodiversity and creating more opportunities for people to connect with nature and the river.
- Improving access to and within the park, making it easier for people to navigate and enjoy.

Many people have already shared their views, and we've listened to all feedback.
We need to look at what's possible, testing our thinking with local people and businesses to take the next steps along the path to creating a better Castle Park.
The latest work builds on years of discussion and planning for Castle Park, including our consultation in 2022.
This consultation spoke to a range of groups through meetings, workshops and an online survey, featuring an interactive map, which generated more than 300 responses.

This follows several consultations and surveys on Castle Park over the last 15 years. The development and delivery plan builds on this.
Over the past decade the surrounding area has seen Bristol's most rapid population growth and significant development.
