What wraparound childcare is, how much it costs, and how to find wraparound childcare in Bristol.

What wraparound childcare is

By September 2026, all parents in England with primary school children should have access to wraparound childcare.

Wraparound childcare is available from 8am, before school starts, until 6pm, after school ends, Monday to Friday during term time. This can be on a school site, or at another local setting such as a community centre, a nursery, or with a childminder.

Wraparound childcare is different from other out of school activities or school clubs that schools may run which are less frequent, potentially one-off activities and usually finish before 6pm.

Although it's accessible to all parents, wraparound childcare is primarily aimed at:

  • working parents
  • parents who are studying
  • parents training for employment

Fees

Parents or carers will have to pay for their wraparound childcare. Fees will be set by the school or the third-party that provides it.

Households eligible for Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit will be able use this to help pay for wraparound childcare.
