SmokeFree Bristol Essentials eLearning
This free course was developed by the Public Health Team at Bristol City Council. It's designed to support anyone working or volunteering with people who smoke to raise awareness of the importance of smoking cessation.
Quitting smoking is the best thing that someone who smokes can do to improve their health.
This short course will provide you with the tools and information you need to empower and support people to quit smoking, improve their health and reduce smoking related harms in the community.
By successfully completing this course you will be able to:
- describe the harms caused by smoking and how it's the leading cause of health inequalities in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire
- describe what secondhand smoke is, its risk to people who don't smoke and the importance of smokefree homes and cars
- recall the benefits of quitting smoking and the free support tools and services that are available to help people quit
- understand why vaping is an effective tool for adults who want to stop smoking
- explain how to have sensitive, effective, brief conversations that support, motivate and encourage people to quit smoking and signpost to the SmokeFree Bristol website for free support
The course takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
You can access the course on Open Learn: SmokeFree Bristol Essentials Training
