What the affordable housing grant is

The affordable housing grant is money we’re offering to help housing providers build affordable homes in Bristol.

Since April 2017, we’ve allocated £16.4 million to help build 360 affordable homes. We plan to build 800 new affordable homes a year by 2020.

Who can apply

You can apply for an affordable housing grant if you’re a non-profit making organisation:

  • Homes West registered provider, registered with Homes England 
  • community land trust
  • community led housing organisation
  • specialist housing provider

Grants are available for affordable housing schemes in the Bristol City Council area on:

  • privately owned land, including land owned by charities
  • public land

Apply online

Apply online using ProContract. You’ll need to set up an account.

You’ll need to include information about:

  • the housing you plan to build
  • how your proposal responds to our corporate strategy and the Bristol Local Plan
  • your planned building schedule
  • the social value your proposal offers:  read our social value policy
  • your organisation’s financial standing
  • how your proposal offers value for money

What happens next

We’ll review applications at the end of each month. We’ll carry out a detailed financial appraisal of your organisation. 

We’ll tell you if your application is successful within 28 days of the monthly deadline.
