The Summer Reading Challenge

The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is Marvellous Makers!

Developed in partnership with Create, a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most, this year’s Challenge aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.

The #SummerReadingChallenge is free and begins on Saturday 6 July in Bristol libraries.

Children read 6 library books over the summer, collect stickers and get a Marvellous Makers medal and certificate at the end.

  • Baby bounce and rhyme and storytime sessions

    If you have a baby, you can come to our baby bounce and rhyme sessions.

  • Reading resources

    Bookstart gives free packs of books and information to parents of babies and pre-school children, to encourage a love of reading.

  • Children's University

    The Children’s University encourages children aged 5 to 14 years to get new interests and skills by joining learning activities outside of school.

  • Lego Clubs and Duplo sessions

    At our sessions, children can build what they like or follow our ideas, developing their science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills through play.
