How to apply for a new year 7 secondary school place
Do not visit the school without a pre-arranged appointment.
The school your child has been offered a place at will contact you by telephone, or email, to arrange your child’s start date.
This is to keep pupils and staff safe at schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If your child was born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 you need to apply for a new year 7 secondary place

To apply online you'll need to register for an account on our Parent Portal admissions system. You’ll get an email confirmation of your application.
Before you apply
- Check application timetable
- check your local authority area
- if you live in Bristol and pay your council tax to Bristol City Council apply to us for a Bristol year 7 secondary place
- if you live in Bristol and pay your council tax to Bristol City Council and you want to apply to a school in another local authority area you also need to apply to us.
- if your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan don't apply to School Admissions, email the Special Educational Needs Team at sen@bristol.gov.uk for how to apply

- you must use your child’s legal name on the application
For other year group school places make an In year application
If you're applying for a school place whilst outside the country you can't apply online. You must fill in and return secondary application form . The form will be available from Saturday 12 September. Email it to school admissions@bristol.gov.uk by 31 October 2020.

Application deadlines
Offers of school places for on time applications will be sent on 1 March 2021.
Applications after 31 October 2020 or changes to current applications after 6 November 2020 will be processed after the initial round of allocations has been completed in March 2021.
The final date and time for making an application or changes to an existing application for the second round of allocations is midnight on 9 April 2021. See change your secondary place application
The second round of allocations will be in May 2021.
School preference
You can express a preference for up to three schools in your order of preference from one to three. All your preferences are considered equally against the schools admission criteria regardless of whether you have put them as preference one, two or three.
If your child qualifies for a place at more than one of your three preferred schools your highest ranked preference school will be offered to you and lower ranked preferences withdrawn.
Supplementary information forms
You may need to complete a supplementary information form as well as the Bristol City Council application form for some schools. Contact these schools for their supplementary information form and to find out the date you need to return the form to the school.

Exceptional medical and social needs
The following schools have exceptional medical and social needs as part of their admissions policy. Read the schools admissions policy for details of how to apply under this criteria:
- Oasis Academy, Brightstowe
- Oasis Academy, Brislington
- Fairfield High School
Applications to Fairfield High School for a child with exceptional social or medical must be supported by a letter from the child’s paediatrician, consultant or a professional from Children’s Services to show that it would be detrimental to the child not to be admitted to the preferred Academy.
A letter must be sent directly to the academy explaining why the academy is the only suitable school to meet the child’s needs and why no other school could provide the appropriate support for the child
