Bristol and Bath Railway Path closures and diversions

Bristol and Bath Railway Path closures and diversions

The dates for the closures and diversions, the locations and why they are in place.

There will be signed closures and diversions on affected sections of the Bristol and Bath Railway Path.

The diversions will be in place from:

  • Monday 15 February 2021

The diversions will last for up to two weeks.

This is because of rolling closures on path sections for works to be carried out.

You should follow diversion signs on site and allow longer for your journey.

The works on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path

The works form part of Sustrans' One Path: BS5 project. The aim of this project is to:

  • improve the safety of the path
  • make the path more inclusive for all users

Design and impact of the works

The One Path: BS5 project is designed to reduce disruption to nature.

This includes:

  • only removing nineteen trees whose locations are a concern to physical safety and accessibility
  • planting 250 new trees to reduce the ecological impact of the tree removals
  • using construction methods that protect tree roots, local wildlife and the ecological habitat

While Sustrans carries out the One Path: BS5 project works, Bristol City Council will also:

  • remove several dead and decaying trees
  • carry out essential pruning
