We're working with Avon and Somerset Police to target enforcement where drivers break the speed limit and put lives in danger.
In an ideal world, no one is fined for speeding, because everyone respects the speed limit. However, we will support enforcement that helps save lives and lets people travel around our city safely.
If you're caught speeding, depending on the circumstances, the police will offer you a speed awareness course or issue a fine and penalty points. Revenue from fines goes to the government.
Our upcoming road safety strategy will set out a strategic approach to improving compliance with speed limits across the city.
If there's an issue with speeding near where you live, tell us about your road safety concern.
Community Speed Watch
If speeding is an issue where you live, you can work with the police through Community Speed Watch to help tackle the problem.
Drivers who speed through residential areas often don't realise the impact they have on people living there or the danger they create. Community Speed Watch gives local people a way to get involved with road safety in their area.
A Speed Watch group is made up of local residents who volunteer a small amount of time each week to check vehicle speeds using detection equipment.
Offenders receive warning letters, and if they keep speeding, the police take further action.
