Costs will stay the same. 

We can collect your garden waste. This service is only available to domestic properties. 

Changes to the garden waste collection service

The Garden Waste Collection Service will be changing soon: collections will be moving to fortnightly instead of weekly.

The cost for the Garden Waste service will not change:

  • direct debits will still be invoiced annually, this price remains at £29 per year (this includes the £3 discount)
  • other methods of payment will still be charged at £32 per year
  • concessionary charges won’t change

If you are already signed up to the annual collection service, you’ll be notified by letter before the service changes with details about your changed collection date.

If you normally book a garden waste sack collection, the next available dates will be shown for you to select.

Order a green garden waste bin

If you would like regular collections you should order a Bristol City Council green garden waste bin.

We charge £21 for a 240 litre Bristol green garden waste bin,which becomes your property, plus £32 annual service charge. 

If you get income support, pension credits, housing or council tax benefits we charge £10 for the bin and £18 for annual service charge.

You get a £3 discount off the annual service charge for paying by Direct Debit.

Set up a regular garden waste collection if you already have a garden waste bin

You are responsible for your bin’s security, and any repairs needed to it.

We may not collect garden waste from a damaged bin.

We only collect from Bristol City Council bins.

Replacement garden bins are charged at £21

You can order a garden waste bin and/or a collection service and pay by debit or credit cards only over the phone.

It's not possible to do direct debit over the phone.

If you move house or want to cancel your collections

Arrange a sack collection

You’ll need to contact us each time you want to book a collection. To book a collection go online or call at least two working days before your weekly collection day.

Over busy periods you may not be guaranteed a booking with your next recycling collection.

What you can and can’t include in your garden waste bin or sack

You can include:

  • Branches - up to 10cm or 4 inches in thickness
  • Flowers
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge prunings
  • Leaves
  • Leaves and bark
  • Plants
  • Straw or sawdust - bedding material from pets such as gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits, as long as fed a vegetarian diet
  • Twigs
  • Weeds - no Japanese Knotweed

You can’t include:

  • Cardboard - please put in or next to your green box
  • Cat, dog or other pet litter
  • Compost
  • Japanese Knotweed
  • Nappies
  • Plant pots
  • Soil and turf
  • Stone or rubble
  • Treated wood
  • Vacuum cleaner contents
