How Bristol Therapeutic Support Service (BTSS) supports Bristol foster carers and the children in their care.

Bristol Therapeutic Support Service (BTSS) is a dedicated therapeutic service supporting:
- our children in care
- children returning home
- care leavers
- foster carers
BTSS promotes stability for our children with training, consultation and direct support.
The programme provides carers and children with a high level of support, including:
- daily tracking
- a weekly carer meeting
- a weekly carer consultation
- carer and child sessions
- education support
- one to one skills coaching for the child
- one to one and group support for children and carers
Support for foster carers
Support for carers includes:
- carer wellbeing and support
- understanding the needs of the child
- therapeutic parenting approaches and strategies
BTSS also provides core training in therapeutic parenting through the Bristol Model training. Every Bristol foster carer must attend this training.
Support for children
BTSS also provides one to one skills coaching for children. The skills coaches work creatively to teach and practice a range of skills directly with the young people. This could include emotional regulation, life and social skills.
The service offers an intensive support programme for children:
- where there is concern of a high risk of instability in the home
- who are returning from a residential home to a Back to Bristol carer
- with very complex needs
Support for staff at education settings
BTSS education workers offer additional support to staff at education settings for a small number of children when there is instability at home and school.
