What short-term parenting interventions we offer, and how to apply for them.
We offer some short-term parenting interventions because being a special guardian to a child is a unique role and it has its own challenges.
These interventions include how to:
- set routines and boundaries
- understand behaviours as a form of communication
- recognise behaviours in the context of early childhood trauma
Resources
We care about supporting you to:
- understand the impact of trauma and loss in past experiences
- recognise how this shows itself in children's behaviour
The support team provides access to a variety of resources.
These resources are to:
- help special guardians develop the necessary skills to support their child's feelings
- distinguish expected childhood challenging behaviours from those which are a direct result of their past trauma
Some carers can access parenting support from Families in Focus and, if the child is under five, from Children's Centres.
The team can also signpost carers to voluntary groups and organisations including Children's Centres and parenting courses.
