Our original plant nursery
The original Blaise Plant Nursery was a walled garden attached to the Blaise Estate. It was where most of the fruit and vegetables for the house were grown from around 1800. This old nursery is now a community garden.
In 1926, Blaise estate was brought by Bristol City Council, and in 1950 we created a plant nursery to grow our bedding plants, pot plants and hanging baskets.
In the early 1990s, we got contracts to supply plants to a number of other local authorities.
Where we are now
With more work, we needed more room. So we moved to a 10 acre site just down the road.
Our business has really developed in the last 25 years.
We now grow more than 1.5 million plants in our glasshouses and polytunnels every year.
Plants for local authorities
We supply Bristol City Council and other local authorities with winter and summer plants and hanging baskets all year round.
Our plants are used:
- in local authority gardens and buildings
- when local authorities enter awards such as the Britain in Bloom awards
Plants for the public
Before 2017, we used to sell our plants to the public for a few days at the end of the summer and autumn season.
Our sales were so popular that we decided to open our doors for longer during the year.
Our business has really expanded, and we now have a large shop selling plants and gardening products, at a very reasonable price. We also sell hot and cold drinks and ice cream.
"We've been extremely pleased with the service we've received in the past couple of years.
This aspect of the council’s business has resulted in much praise and compliments.
We wish to continue with the services of Bristol City Council and see our relationship as very much a long term partnership".
Will Tidmarsh Team Leader, Chippenham Town Council
