Customise a Windows 7, 8, and 10 PC or laptop
There are various options to help you to customise a laptop or PC.
If you're in school, you may need to ask the IT department for permission to do this. They may have locked the PC or laptop down and you'd need administrator rights to be able to do this.
Things you may need to do to make a PC or laptop more accessible include:
- using magnifier to make things easier to see on screen
- adding keyboard shortcuts
- making Windows easier to see, for example by
- adjusting size and colour
- using pointers
- magnification
- narration
- using colour filters in Windows 10
Modify Windows 7 Welcome screen font size
To modify Windows 7 Welcome screen font size:
- Click the "Start" button.
- Type "regedit" (without quotation marks) in the search bar.
- Right click on the regedit.exe found in the list and;
- Click Run as administrator.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\Fonts
- Right click the Fonts entry on the left pane.
- Choose Export
- Select Desktop in the Save in box and type "backup" (without quotation marks) in File Name.
- Click Save.
- Double click LogPixels entry on the right pane.
- Change the value to 60. (100%)
- Also, you can change it to:
- 78 (125%)
- 90 (150%)
- Exit the registry key editor and then log off the user to check the issue.
The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file.
