Decisions on the use of football and rugby pitches during the season will be made on the morning of the Friday prior to each weekend and information will normally be published here by midday.
How to book football pitches
Bristol Parks provides football pitches that are available for the public to enjoy in Bristol. The football season starts on 1 September and runs through to 30 April.
We can advise you on availability and send you an application form. Please note that priority will be given to existing bookings. You will be asked to pay for your booking in two instalments or by Direct Debit.

Secondary school football provision
There is also football provision at secondary school sites across the city which have signed up to community use agreements.

Outdoor bowling greens
We have 17 outdoor bowling greens in Bristol. The outdoor bowls season starts on the third Saturday in April and finishes at the end of September each year.
Many bowling greens are managed by the resident clubs rather than on a casual pay and play basis and casual bookings need to be done through the clubs. If you would like to use a rink contact us and we will send you more information.
- Bristol Indoor Bowls Club is a nine rink indoor bowls facility based in Bedminster. It is a thriving club with a large junior section and coaching available. Please visit the BIBC website or call 0117 963 3460 for further information.
- Whitchurch Sports Centre has one rink for public use in the winter with a further two available for club use. You can book by phoning Whitchurch Sports Centre on 0127 583 3911 or in person from 10am to 11pm each day.
We have two cricket pitches in Bristol.
The cricket season starts on 1 May and runs through to 30 August each year. The cricket pitches are available Wednesday evenings from 6pm until sunset and Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm until sunset.
Unfortunately we do not have any grass cricket pitches available for casual hire.
All weather pitches
There are a number of artificial turf and grass pitches across Bristol. Below is a list of all facilities within the Bristol boundaries. Please visit the Active Places website to see facilities in South Gloucestershire and other surrounding areas.
Ashton Court golf course
Within the heart of Ashton Court Estate lie two 18-hole par 3 golf courses that are managed by the council.
Members of the public are able to 'pay and play' on the 18-hole Plateau Course or the Lodge Course. The course also offers free car parking and club hire.
We have seven rugby pitches in Bristol.
The rugby season starts on 1 September and runs through to 30 April each year.
You can make seasonal bookings for all pitches by telephone, we can advise you on availability and send you an application form.
Please note that priority will be given to existing bookings.
You will be asked to pay for your booking in two instalments or by Direct Debit.
Booking casual rugby pitches
You can make casual bookings for all pitches between 12noon on Tuesday until 4.30pm on Wednesday for the following weekend. Pitches are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Portway Rugby Development Centre
Portway Rugby Centre has a floodlit 3G all weather pitch and two full size rugby pitches available for hire. Please call 0117 353 2737 or visit the website for more information.
We have 34 tennis courts in Bristol. There are a further 14 tennis courts (4 indoor, 10 outdoor) available to the public through partnership with the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. The Coombe Dingle Sports Complex is open all year round from 9.00am - 11.00pm seven days a week. All tennis courts are tarmac.
It is no longer possible to book courts in advance for casual games unless you arrange this with the club who manages the courts directly.
