Changes to recycling containers: September 2026

From September 2026, green recycling boxes will be phased out and replaced with red recycling bags.

Between September and December 2026, households with kerbside recycling collections will get new recycling containers free of charge:

  • blue bag for paper and card
  • red bag for plastics and cans
  • brown bin and caddy for food waste, if missing or damaged

If you order replacement recycling containers before the rollout reaches your area, a delivery charge will apply.

When the rollout reaches your area, a crew will remove your old blue bag and green recycling box and replace with a new blue bag and red bag. Your brown food waste caddy and bin will only be replaced if they are missing or damaged.

Black recycling boxes will remain the same.

We charge £2.50 delivery for a:

  • blue bag for cardboard
  • green recycling box and lid (if you have one)
  • black recycling box and lid (if you have one)

  • food waste caddy, to use in the kitchen

Order new bins and boxes

We aim to deliver your new bins or boxes within 15 working days. At busy times it can take longer.

If you don't have the correct bin or box, you should:

  • separate your recycling by type (cans, plastics, paper, glass, cardboard with tape removed and big pieces ripped up) and put it in untied carrier bags (not black bin liners), we cannot take bags of mixed recycling
  • put waste that can't be recycled in tied bin bags and put them on the kerbside on your usual collection day by 6am
