Who needs to apply for a deposit licence, how much it costs and how to apply.
All deposit licence applications are now online. Any applications sent in the post or by email will be rejected.
You'll need a deposit licence to put building materials, including storage containers, welfare units and portaloos on a highway.
This licence is called a builders deposit licence and is only given where absolutely necessary. Where possible we expect you to store building materials off the highway on private property.
Cost
A licence or renewal of a licence is £84 .
The builders deposit licence can last up to a month. You must make another application if you need a licence for longer.

You must apply for a licence at least 5 days before you want to put any building materials on the highway.
Refunds
We'll only consider a refund if you email bss.highwaylicences@bristol.gov.uk before your licence is processed. Once your licence has been processed, we cannot approve refund requests.
