Suspend a bus stop
You must apply to suspend a bus stop when carrying out roadworks that prevent the use of a bus stop. This includes work on the footway, for example tree maintenance.
Notice
We need a minimum of one week’s notice before the start of the suspension of the bus stop so it can be taken out of commission or a temporary stop installed.
Bus stop closure requests made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged double the standard rate.
Costs
Closure of a bus stop cost:
- £260 per stop for the first 2 stops
- £83 per additional stop
- £104 for a temporary stop that requires additional infrastructure, such as pole in barrel
You’ll be charged £624 if you close a bus stop without authorisation.
Cancel or change your application
Cancellation of a bus stop suspension is:
- free with more than 6 days’ notice
- charged at £73 charge per stop with 1 to 6 days’ notice
- charged at full cost of the original request with less than 24 hours’ notice
A £73 fee applies for each stop if you want to amend your application.

Suspend a taxi rank
Notice
We need a minimum of one week’s notice before the start of the suspension of a taxi rank so it can be taken out of commission or a temporary rank installed.
Taxi rank closure requests made with less than 1 weeks’ notice may be rejected.
Costs
There is a £31 per hour charge for officer time to facilitate the suspension.

How to apply
We’ll need:
- an invoice address
- a Purchase Order
- a map showing location of bus stop or taxi rank to suspend
- a plan of the works

If you want to close a road, you’ll also need a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) or a Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice (TTRN).
