Clean Air Zone
We launched a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) in November 2022 to help lower nitrogen dioxide pollution to safer, legal levels. For more information, visit Bristol's Clean Air Zone.
Since the introduction of the CAZ, average annual nitrogen dioxide levels have fallen by 20% inside the zone and almost 17% outside of the zone.
Monitoring and reporting on air pollution
Every year we must tell the Government what we're doing to reduce pollution and meet legal limits. Most places in Bristol now meet those limits, except for a few locations in the city centre.

The documents we submit to the Government about air quality in Bristol are called Annual Status Reports. Our latest Annual Status Report (2025) contains a summary of all air pollution monitoring data for 2024. 2024 was the second full year the Clean Air Zone was in operation.

- what we're doing to reduce air pollution in Bristol
- ways people in Bristol can reduce how much air pollution they make and how much they breathe in
