Apply for a Design Review before you make a submission for a major scheme in Bristol.

A Design Review is an effective means of early consultation and is best undertaken in the pre-application period.

The review is by the Design Review Panel who offer guidance and feedback on how proposals for development could be improved. The service is provided to all pre-application submissions for major schemes in the city.

A major development is a scheme with 10 or more residential units or 1000 square metres of commercial floor space.

Apply for a review

You can apply for a Design Review on the Design West website.

Cost of the Design Review service

The cost is £2,250 plus VAT per 1.5 hour Design Review Panel session.

For more information about this service, contact: pippa@designreviewwest.org

If you've applied for pre-application advice for a major development, you don't have to take your design to Design West.  However, we'll contact you and encourage you to submit your design for review.

Design Reviews and the National Planning Policy Framework

The National Planning Policy Framework requires that Local planning authorities should have local design review arrangements in place to provide assessment and support to ensure high standards of design.
