Suspend a bus stop

You must apply to suspend a bus stop when carrying out roadworks that prevent the use of a bus stop. This includes work on the footway, for example tree maintenance.

If you need to obtain a Section 278 Agreement to undertake these works (see your planning decision notice) this must be signed and completed before we can process your application

Notice

We need a minimum of one week's notice before the start of the suspension of the bus stop so it can be taken out of commission or a temporary stop installed.

Bus stop closure requests made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged double the standard rate.

Costs

Closure of a bus stop cost:

  • £273 per stop for the first 2 stops
  • £87 per additional stop
  • £109 for a temporary stop that requires additional infrastructure, such as pole in barrel

You'll be charged £655 if you close a bus stop without authorisation.

Cancel or change your application

Cancellation of a bus stop suspension is:

  • free with more than 6 days' notice
  • charged at £76 charge per stop with 1 to 6 days' notice
  • charged at full cost of the original request with less than 24 hours' notice

A £76 fee applies for each stop if you want to amend your application.
