Large Victorian suburban park.
Avian botulism is a naturally occurring toxin that can occur in warmer weather and poses a very low risk to human health. Recent hot and dry conditions have caused water levels in the lake to fall significantly, creating conditions in which the toxin can develop. Similar incidents have been reported in other areas of the UK.
We're working with our partners and will continue to monitor the lake. We'll provide updates as more information becomes available.
Help protect local wildlife
If you are visiting St George Park:
- Keep dogs on a lead near the lake
- Do not allow dogs to enter the water
- Avoid contact with the water where possible
- Do not feed wild birds
- Do not touch sick, injured or dead animals

The toilets are open daily from 8am to 6pm.
Open every day over the Christmas period, including Christmas Day.
Fishing
Under the park byelaws you can't fish in St George Park lake. You can fish in and next to all other parks and green spaces, with a line or net.
